I love an amazing statement piece–whether its jewelry, a handbag, or item of clothing–that completely steals the show with its boldness. However sometimes I like it even more if the piece in mind is subtle enough earn attention in a quiet, elegant way. This multi-gemstone necklace sent to me by Mickey Lynn Jewelry without question falls into the second category. The memorizingly gorgeous stones, each unique in their cut and shape, are simply stunning against the extra-long gold link chain. The brand has a fun back story: Mickey Lynn worked as an IT professional and began designing jewelry–with her partner Seth Shindeldecker in Atlanta, Georgia–because she felt something was missing in her career. The collection, which has grown to include celebrity fans (like Christina Applegate, Courtney Cox, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Miley Cyrus) and is bolstered by wold travels, truly is a dream come true.

P.S. Love my necklace? Well guess what–you can win one of your own, courtesy of Mickey Lynn herself! Check back later today for all the contest details! x

H&M and I have a weird relationship. Many times I can walk through the store and not find a single thing I'd want (even if it was being offered for free–I know, crazy right?). Then randomly I can spot something that's too perfect to even consider passing up. This black-and-white striped sweater falls in the latter category. It's soft, light-weight, and looks like it cost a lot more than the brand's relatively low pricing. Plus, it looks great with everything from jeans to shorts to skirts. Case in point: this outfit, which also features my favorite–and comfy–maxi skirt. It's my idea of a perfect early spring look.

No matter the season, I love wearing maxi-length skirts and dresses–they're both stylish and comfortable. While nothing beats throwing on one with a pair of sandals in the spring or summer, it's a lot of fun to layer the look during colder months. This Rachel Roy sweater seems bulky but it's incredibly lightweight and my sparkly jewelery and bright pink pink clutch add just the right amount of color to the outfit.

{things i wore} colorful necklace (+ my ‘send the trend’ style challenge entry)

This photo shoot was part of Send the Trend's "Style Challenge," an styling event featuring outfits put together by bloggers with jewelry they hand-pickeded from the brand's extensive collection. I selected a bunch of amazing accessories (which will all eventually find their way into my upcoming outfit posts), but for the look I submitted I wore my favorite piece, STT's "Candy Briolette Necklace"–it's hot pink, sparkly, and fabulous. This is a pretty exciting competition–one look (as chosen by readers) will receive even more prizes and a chance to appear on TV. Voting will go live here sometime today, but in the meantime you can register to shop your own favorites here. The best part? You'll get a $5 credit toward any purchases by using that link!

What do you think? Would you cast your vote for my STT Challenge look?

p.s. I've finally upgraded my phone–goodbye Blackberry, hello iPhone5–and with it I've started using Instagram…be sure to follow me here for even more beautiful things! x

{things i wore} gold collar necklace

I've always loved Cleopatra–yes, mostly the glitzy version that's come down to us via Elizabeth Taylor. I'm more than familiar with the historical inaccuracies of that portrayal but I think it's reasonably safe to say that Hollywood's creation and the real queen of the Nile both had their share of fabulous jewelry. The name of this 'Cleopatra' collar then, sent by the fabulous folks over at Karen London along with a matching 'Alexandria' ring, had me fascinated from the start. When I finally saw it in person I was floored. It more than deserves its title–there is something very regal about its broad hammered gold. Karen London is brand you should definitely check out. Loved by celebrities–Miley Cyrus has this same necklace and ring–and lots of other bloggers, her designs are bold, modern, and elegant but remain amazingly wearable.

What do you think? Do you have a favorite piece from Karen's line?

p.s. Get excited…I'm posting a brand-new giveaway tomorrow sponsered by Guess Eyewear and their 'Shades of Summer Playlist' event that launches July 20. Stay tuned–there will be THREE winners! x

{things i covet} godet maxi skirt by jenni kayne

[Photos from Shopbop - in Cerulean, $595, available here

I have more maxi dresses and skirts than my closet can handle–it's safe to say I'll lament the day the trend goes out of style–and I'd like to think I have a considerable amount of variety within my collection. But this skirt by Jenni Kayne has a detail I have yet to wear: a godet, or what the New Oxford American Dictionary tells me is "a triangular piece of material inserted in a garment to make it flared or for ornamentation." And while I'm obsessed with the resulting fishtail hem, it's really the bright blue color of the piece that completely wins me over. I'm seeing summer skies and ocean waves throughout its cascading fabric.
