If I really think about it, I'm pretty sure I only became aware of 'designer' sweatshirts around the time the Target x Neiman Marcus holiday collection launched this past December–which is when I fell completely in love with a brightly patterned example from Proenza Schouler (last seen here). This heart lace sweatshirt by Tibi is just as easy to like. Seasonally appropriate–the lace heart applique reminds me of the valentine's day cards I used to pass around in grade school–I also love the black and white combo and the dropped shoulder. Although it almost seems counter-intuitive, high-end sweatshirts really seem worth the splurge when done well. Comfort and style combined in one fashionable package? Sign me up.

You could blame my obsession with this dress on any number of things. With its hourglass silhouette and vampy details, it's iconically Dolce and Gabanna–which alone would justify its purchase, right? Add on that it's my favorite color (black), favorite fabric (lace), and the fact that it looks like it should be worn by a leading lady in an old black-and-white movie, and it becomes the most perfect dress I've seen in a while. Appropriate for any number of occasions–drinks? dinner? party? red carpet (lucky you Eva Mendes)?–it's on the top of my list of dresses I covet.
What do you think? What sort of dresses do you have on your wish list? I can answer that all too easily–just check out my board on Pinterest dedicated to the subject!

Have you ever impulse-purchased something without so much as a clue as to how you'd style or wear it? That was me with this shirt. When I spotted it on a clearance rack at Target, my first thought was: "Of course it's marked down–it's a sheer lace tank top." My second thought, not far behind, was markedly different in tone: "I've got to buy it–it's marked down and it's black lace" (look at my blog's layout and you'll understand the obsession). Still, the shirt languished unworn in my closet for some time. Here I paired it with some less delicate pieces–like ripped jeans and a studded handbag–to temper its lovely but lady-like lace.

We've seen a much tamer version of this look before: the all-over lace dress, the nude platform pumps, the wavy partial up-do were worn by Kate Middleton this summer when she toured Canada with her husband Prince William. Ashely Tisdale may be a Disney princess but she luckily doens't have to follow any royal rules. Her take on the outfit, which she wore to a premiere in Los Angeles on October 3, is as a result much sexier. While I thought Kate looked beautiful, I'm really loving Ashely's red lip, the higher arch on her pumps, and most of all, the unexpected cut-out on the back of her Lovers+Friends dress.
