the king and i

I’ll never forget my first Broadway show. In the Spring of 2001 I saw Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida at the Palace Theater. I literally squeezed my friend’s hand as the curtain went up I was so excited. Safe to say I was hooked, and during my college years I saw more shows than I can count (hooray for student discounts). These days, getting Broadway tickets is more of a special occasion thing, which is why I happily agreed to see The King and I for my last birthday. Though I saw the show a few months ago, I just read that it’s phenomenal star Kelli O’Hara announced she’s leaving on April 17th. I’m prone to superlatives but I can’t praise this production enough. David and I were spellbound from the opening scene. The costumes and set are incredibly gorgeous and the acting was incredible–I still get breathless thinking about it. If you’re in NYC and you can, try to grab tickets before the end of next month, you won’t regret it!
