tarte maracuja oil

Last year, as I inched ever-closer to my thirtieth birthday (eek! that looks odd to even write down), I decided I really needed to take better care of my skin. My previous skincare routine had been spotty at best: I slept in my makeup one too many times a week and while I always used good products, they were mostly samples I wanted desperately to finish even if their results were not-so-stellar. I did some research and couldn’t believe the overwhelmingly positive review’s Tarte’s Maracuja Oil received. I decided to give it a try, and I’m here to happily add my voice to the fray: it really works! Below I’ll break down what I think.

details:

Maracuja oil is derived from the seeds of the Passion fruit plant (all colloquially referred to as “miracles” because of their healing powers). It is a treatment oil that promises a healthy dose of long-lasting moisture which leads to firmer, brighter, and smoother skin over time. Maracuja oil is rich in essential fatty acids and vitamin C, both of which support anti-aging. It’s also anti-inflammatory. As with most Tarte products, it’s made without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.

packaging: ★★★★★

I’ve always known Tarte to use high-quality and aesthetically-pleasing packaging for their products, and there’s no disappointments here. The bottle and dropper are incredibly well-made (I’m going to feel very guilty throwing them away when the oil’s all gone). I store the bottle in its box in our medicine cabinet because light degrades the oil’s nutrients, though the glass is so pretty it would look lovely displayed.

price:  ★★★★☆

Maracuja oil (or any good quality oil for that matter) isn’t cheap and buying any product through a high-end beauty brand also raises the price slightly. It’s an investment for sure, but it’s one that provides good value. My skin is naturally very, very dry, but I’ve been using the recommended three drops nightly since the fall and am only about halfway through the 1.7 oz. bottle (I do supplement with a night cream after I’ve given it a few minutes to absorb).

performance: ★★★★☆

The results were not instantaneous nor were the incredibly dramatic, but after a few weeks of nightly use this oil completely transformed my skin. I’ve always suffered from redness and random breakouts (especially on my cheeks and forehead), but both of those problems have lessened to the degree that I barely think about them anymore when applying makeup. And speaking of makeup, I now wear so much less for coverage (I barely use concealer and have seriously lightened my foundation usage). The smell probably isn’t what you’d except–it’s not sweet or scented in any way, which in the end is a good thing (nothing artificial’s been added). Though I’m not sure the oil has had any noticeable affect on “wrinkles” (more like fine lines on me), my skin is moist around the clock and feels amazing. I’m trusting it with my future and hope it’s working now to slow any future signs of aging!

overall: ★★★★★

Sometimes when I buy a product, I end up liking the idea of it but not the specific brand/color/scent/etc. That isn’t the case here–Tarte’s Maracuja oil is exactly what I wanted: an easy-to-use, not-too-heavy nutrient-rich moisture surge. My skin feels and looks amazing. When it finishes, I’ll be sure to replace it and keep using it every day!
